Renovation & Design
The Driftwood Motel has undergone a remarkable transformation. We've expanded the central pool area, reorienting it to make room for additional amenities like a badminton/volleyball court. The property now boasts five distinct room types across 26 units, including single queens (with and without desks), bunk rooms, and double fulls. Our design approach, led by our partner on the Hotel Perle, Humn Capital, and its Principal, Buck Buczkowski, carefully balances modern comfort with the unique character of Bay St. Louis.

Property Branding
We worked with Humn Capital on the branding at the Driftwood as well. The goal was to maintain the spirt of present day Bay St Louis, one that is unlike other Gulf Coast beach town, while connecting guests with the history of this property that holds a special place in the hearts of many in the region. Throughout the process we engaged with members of the community, getting feedback on color selection, final logos and more through social media.

Innovative Model
As with our other projects, like the Hotel Perle, we're at the forefront of evolving hospitality trends, capitalizing on changes accelerated by the rise of platforms like Airbnb. Our model balances cost-efficiency with a unique guest experience:
- Digital check-in: Guests receive a code for seamless, contactless entry to their rooms
- House manager: Doris, our on-site manager, oversees housekeeping and engages with guests, providing a personal touch without the cost of 24/7 front desk staffing
- Flexible common spaces:
- The Manager's Office serves breakfast and coffee on weekend mornings
- Our Lounge allows guests to prepare their own drinks and light meals
- Adaptable areas for guest-hosted events and gatherings
This approach keeps operational costs low while fostering a sense of community and offering the amenities today's travelers seek. We're creating a space that feels alive and interactive, moving beyond the traditional motel experience or the potentially isolating nature of some Airbnb stays.
By embracing these trends, we're positioning the Driftwood Motel to appeal to modern travelers who value both independence and community in their accommodations.
Guest Experience
We've created a standout guest experience that sets us apart in the market:
- A common lounge area where guests can prepare drinks and light meals
- Partnership with local Mockingbird Cafe to offer light breakfast on weekends
- Converted carport now serves as a communal seating area
- Beer license obtained to enhance guest offerings
- On-site house manager, Doris, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere

Market Reception
The local community and visitors have warmly embraced the revitalized Driftwood Motel. Our soft launch began June 24th with friends and family bookings, leading up to our official July 1st opening. We've already secured a full-property booking from a car enthusiast group for August, demonstrating strong market interest. Current booking rates range from $150-$200 per night, substantially exceeding our underwritten rate of $88/night at 55% occupancy. Looking ahead, we have an upcoming follow-up feature on Biloxi Fox station and plans for community movie nights in the central courtyard.
